What this calculator is for
The business days calculator counts only the working days between two dates and ignores weekends — and, if you choose, public holidays. Weekends and holidays are when most offices, banks, courts, warehouses, and shipping carriers are closed, so business days are the unit that actually governs deadlines, turnaround times, and delivery promises. Counting them by hand is slow and error-prone, especially across a long range or a month with a holiday in it; this tool does it instantly and shows the supporting totals so you can check the math.

How working days are counted
The calculator walks through every date in the range — including both the start and end dates — and keeps only the weekdays, Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are dropped. When you turn on Exclude US federal holidays, any working day that is also a federal holiday is removed as well, using the date the holiday is observed: a holiday on a Saturday is observed on the Friday before, and one on a Sunday on the following Monday.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as a business day?
A business day, or working day, is any weekday from Monday to Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are not business days, and when you enable the holiday option, public holidays are removed too.
How are business days between two dates calculated?
The calculator looks at every date in the range, including both the start and end dates, keeps the Mondays to Fridays, and drops the weekends. With the holiday option on, any weekday that is a US federal holiday is also removed from the total.
Which holidays are excluded?
The optional holiday list is the eleven US federal holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. When a holiday lands on a weekend it is counted on its observed weekday (Friday for a Saturday holiday, Monday for a Sunday holiday).
Are the start and end dates included?
Yes. The range is inclusive, so both the first and last date are counted if they are working days. Monday to the following Friday in the same week, for example, is five business days.
Why do business days matter for deadlines?
Shipping carriers, banks, courts, and offices are generally closed on weekends and public holidays, so contracts, SLAs, and delivery estimates are usually written in business days. Counting them correctly avoids promising a date that falls on a non-working day.
Do business days differ by country?
The Monday-to-Friday working week is standard in most countries, but public holidays differ. This tool uses US federal holidays; for other countries, leave the holiday option off and subtract your local public holidays separately.
