What this calculator is for

The date difference calculator tells you precisely how much time separates two dates. Enter a start date and an end date and it returns the gap several ways at once — total days, whole weeks, and a calendar breakdown of years, months, and days — together with how many of those days are weekdays and how many fall on the weekend. It’s the fastest way to answer everyday questions such as “how many days until my due date,” “how long has it been since we launched,” or “how many weeks between these two milestones” without counting squares on a calendar or risking an off-by-one mistake.

Because it shows every unit side by side, you don’t have to pick a format up front. The same calculation works for a few days, a few decades, or anything in between, and it stays accurate across leap years and months of different lengths.

Common ways to use it

How the calculation works

Each date is treated as a whole calendar day, and the calculator measures the number of nights between them. So 1 January to 2 January is one day; tick Include the end day and it becomes two, which matches how people often count inclusive ranges. The years-months-days breakdown is built from real month lengths rather than a flat 30 days, so February and leap years are handled correctly. Weekday and weekend totals are counted day by day across the range, and everything runs in your browser — no dates are uploaded or stored.

For example, from 1 March 2026 to 1 June 2026 there are 92 days — exactly three months, or just over 13 weeks — and the panel splits those into weekdays and weekend days for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?

Enter a start date and an end date above. The calculator instantly returns the number of days between them, along with the equivalent in weeks, months, and years, and counts the weekdays and weekend days in the range.

Does the result include the end date?

By default the count is the number of nights between the two dates, so 1 January to 2 January is one day. Tick “Include the end day in the total” to count both endpoints, which makes that example two days.

How are months and years worked out?

The years, months, and days breakdown uses real calendar lengths, so it accounts for 28, 30, and 31-day months and for leap years. It does not assume a flat 30-day month, which is why it can differ slightly from dividing the total days by 30.

Can I find the difference between dates in different years?

Yes. You can compare any two dates, in the past or the future and across any number of years. If you enter the later date first, the calculator simply shows the size of the gap and notes that the dates were reversed.

What is the difference between calendar days and weekdays?

Calendar days count every day in the range, including weekends. Weekdays count only Monday to Friday. The result panel shows both, so you can see the full span and the working portion at a glance.
